Larry Yoakum III
I grew up in Valley Center, KS and left at age 19 to join the Air Force, serving as a survival equipment tech. I began writing many of my short stories in that time and eventually was published. After my initial contract expired, I went indi and republished both short story books under one big book, as well as began writing novels. My genre is a mix of horror, paranormal, fantasy, supernatural, and sci-fi. All my books exist within a shared reality. I currently live in Dallas, Tx with my awesome wife, Allison, where I continue to write stories to amuse and abuse the public. I am also an ordained minister and have officiated over 20 weddings and am also the founding member of the Knights of Targoth Order of Veterans.

Prologe from my book Incubus: Folklore Series Book 3

"PROLOGUE

Sleep Paralysis.  It is a not uncommon occurrence where a person wakes in the middle of the night and cannot move.  This usually comes with a panicked feeling, accompanied by noises and movement in the room, seen mostly through peripheral vision.  It can also come with a heavy feeling on your chest and a shadowy mass on top of you.

Science has explained it all away, claiming that your body is simply locked in place as per usual sleep routines that your body and mind put upon you in order to prevent you from acting out your dreams. Many times, that is the case.  But, every once in a while, more often than not, when a person experiences sleep paralysis, it is caused by a malevolent presence that never walked the universe in mortal form.

Shadow people, nightmare demons, dark fairy folk, and even alien visitation are a few things that could cause these nocturnal torments.  However, out of them all, the worst you could experience is the assault of an incubus."

Don't I feel like a loser when I learn you're through with me.
It was news to everyone, especially to me.
Don't I feel pathetic, like there's something wrong with me.
She is far more beautiful than I could ever be.
I stand here null and solemn, though it must be written on my face,
that I've found before the world what you couldn't say to my face.
You blow right on by me with your new love, hand in hand.
So smug, haughty, and thoughtless.  You are not much of a man.
Filled with anger, through and through, I feel like I could drown.
I lift my glass and drink fast to chase the feeling down.
I close my eyes.  I still see your face.  Somehow I should have known.
You kill me inside with a passing glance, and now my heart grows cold.
So much time spent in a one sided love was wasted all on you.
Don't I feel like a loser for ever caring about you.
