Interview with Theodora Yeldell Mays

Hi Theodora Yeldell Mays, thank you for agreeing to this interview.
Oltobooks : Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I'm a Positive thinking, God-Loving & God-Fearing woman who loves inspiring people, especially our youth and I focus on possessing the attitude of gratitude no matter the situation.
Oltobooks : What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I want people to see, read and absorb the heart and mind touching messages in my poems that will impact their thinking and feeling in a positive way.
Oltobooks : When did you decide to become a writer?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I feel my writing juices were stirred up in me in the 3rd Grade when our English Teacher had us to pick from a list of topics and write it in the form of a poem. I selected the topic...OH SUMMER IS A FUN TIME. I enjoyed playing with and rhyming the words and became excited about what I could create the expression of my feelings in this enjoyable thought generating manner!!
Oltobooks : Why do you write?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I write to express my inward feeling about things in a way that a person can get my message in a catchy and creative form without feeling they've been given an outright speech or lecture.
Oltobooks : What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I'm a deep thinker and I found that I can use my writing through the genre of poetry to express my point of view in an entertaining type of way that promotes the reader to think about a deep subject in a different or unique way.
Oltobooks : Where do your ideas come from?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : My ideas come from....Things, people, situations, thoughts. My thoughts are usually triggered by something I see or hear that causes me to want to express my viewpoint about using the play of words in a rhyming way to accomplish my endeavor.
Oltobooks : What is the hardest thing about writing?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : Nothing. I love writing.
Oltobooks : What is the easiest thing about writing?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : Everything. I love writing
Oltobooks : If this book is part of a series, tell us a little about it?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I was blessed that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone of fear at the tender age of 60 and emailed my poetry manuscript to a Publisher for review. It was accepted within 2 weeks and the rest is history. Most of my readers ask for and are wanting me to write another book. I do still have years of material that hasn't been exposed yet. My next book would probably be a book of short stories...(Fiction)
Oltobooks : What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I'm OK with writing a book series. I just want to get out of me all that's inside of me so I won't take any fruits of my gift to the grave.
Oltobooks : What is your favourite positive saying?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I made up this saying up to shut up some friends who focus on the number of a person's AGE...and wanted me to feel OLD because they felt OLD. "I'M NOT LIVING MY AGE....I'M LIVING MY LIFE" (Original quote by Theodora Mays)
Oltobooks : Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : I can see myself as the SUCCESSFUL AUTHOR who's work is displayed in large plaque or canvas form in public places in view where people can read the words and feed their minds and souls.
Oltobooks : What advice would you give to your younger self?
Theodora Yeldell Mays : "Live your LIFE, not your AGE".

In my Room long ago
I sat so merry in my abode
Loving hands around me
I dreamt of such glorious days
One day i would see

I remember the day I left
My room
I closed the door behind me
One quick look again
Then walked away
The room which would always remind me

The glorious days I had dreamt
I did merrily spent
How little did I then know
Life turns on a dime
My room is now not as it was
When I closed the door
Behind me

My room now is a prison
But not how one would invision
It is one of sorrow and grief
Sadness burns into the bare walls
I catch my breath
And weep

Why did thou'st doth betray?
The room which once embraced me
I ask with riddled heart
Jagged and torn
Which wicked riddles have I thus sought?

I sit still
I am now my room
No dreams as once before
I age before my open door

In my room long ago
I sat merrily in my loving abode
Loving hands did hold me
All gone

My room and myself
Now one
Two thrust to be together
Forever
Alone
