Hi Florence Osmund, thank you for agreeing to this interview.
Oltobooks : Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
Florence Osmund : I am a novelist who got a rather late start at it--I published my first book at the age of sixty-two. I currently have eight published and another in the works.
Oltobooks : What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Florence Osmund : My ambition is to keep writing novels as long as I can and as long as I enjoy doing it.
Oltobooks : When did you decide to become a writer?
Florence Osmund : For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to write books in my retirement years.
Oltobooks : Why do you write?
Florence Osmund : I love writing fiction where I can get my creative juices flowing, make things up as I go along, and feel the satisfaction of completing another book.
Oltobooks : What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
Florence Osmund : For years during my work career, I had collected ideas on plots, characters, and scenes for my first novel. When it came time to start writing, I sorted through all my notes, and I had enough material for my first five books.
Oltobooks : Where do your ideas come from?
Florence Osmund : My ideas come from myriad places--conversations I overhear, movies, other books, workplace incidents, news reports, friends and family stories, talk shows...just about anywhere but never from a single source. I pull together bits and pieces from different sources to create the story and characters.
Oltobooks : What is the hardest thing about writing?
Florence Osmund : Not being able to do it full time. Marketing, website maintenance, promotions, and other book-related tasks take a chunk out of my day.
Oltobooks : What is the easiest thing about writing?
Florence Osmund : I never seem to run out of ideas for characters and plot lines. Sometimes I can't type fast enough to capture what is going through my head.
Oltobooks : If this book is part of a series, tell us a little about it?
Florence Osmund : N/A
Oltobooks : What are your thoughts on writing a book series?
Florence Osmund : I do not write in series. When I finish a book, I'm ready to create a new set of characters and plot line.
Oltobooks : What is your favourite positive saying?
Florence Osmund : Believe in yourself.
Oltobooks : Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Florence Osmund : I hope to continue what I'm doing--writing novels--for at least the next five years.
Oltobooks : What advice would you give to your younger self?
Florence Osmund : Never give up on a dream.
